I've been cooking this up for a while now. Ever since I got my first look at Sephiroth, I knew this crossover was going to happen sooner or later. At the time, I was (and still am) working on a sci-fi/horror/adventure trilogy about a character I created form a combination of games I play with my little cousins, and a self-made Halloween costume.
I never believed in "cute" Halloween costumes, because Halloween was originally about evil. When you get right down to it, psycho killers in movies are scary, but nothing as as truly terrifying as pure evil (the true terror behind Michael Myers). The word evil is overused. evil is not a maniac trying to take over the world. Shredder and Krang weren't evil, they were nuts.
Pure evil has only one true definition: existence without a soul. From the soul stems eveything that makes us human, our emotions, feelings, and conscience. Without emotions, conscience, and capability of remorse and guilt, you have pure evil. evil does not conquer worlds, it thrives off the misery and suffering of others. There are many people tainted with evil, but even a person with the blackest of souls is not
pure evil. Only a person totally devoid of a soul can be pure evil.
Anyway, with that in mind, I set about creating my costume. I always make my costume myself, I will never buy one, unless I heavily modify it. I used a mental picture of a villain my daydreams had created, and soon came up with a very cool looking costume. I dubbed the charater...well, I wont tell you what I dubbed him, you'll have to read the story! Anyway, pulling out all the stops, as I usually do, I made more than a costume, made an image. I gave him a personality, which really brought him to life as I paraded him around the neighborhood. But I began to see I had a little more than just a Halloween character. The more I thought about him, the more I realized his potential. I had created possibly the most purely evil character on the planet. When I thought of the personality I gave him, I realized just how supremely cruel, twisted, and dark he was. He had everything. Enormous power, a frightening appearance, and a truly terrifying aura.
Very soon, I was sitting in front of my computer with a huge story to tell. I knew my creation had everything it needed to keep people awake at night, not listening for strange noises outside, but fearing for their souls. The images I am presenting in this still incomplete work make one contemplate the true meaning of evil. What is it? What makes it work? And how close is it?
I'm not a sadistic person, but I'm good at scaring the hell out of people, and let's face it, people like to be scared. If they didn't, Stephen King would have no career.
As I worked my story, I discovered another character remarkably similair to mine. His name was Sephiroth. He was pretty close to what I had created. He was dark, cold, and had similiar taste in clothes. Sephiroth influenced my character in a few ways, even though Sephiroth was not nearly as evil as what I had created. Sephiroth is plenty evil, I believe he fits the criteria for the distinction. I don't think he's just a madman, I think he is a soulless, emotionless horror, just as I decribed above. And he seemed to go hand in hand with my guy.
But then I thought, gee, my character could kick Sephiroth's ass!
I mean,
really kick it!
When I discovered "fan fiction" I toyed with the idea of writing a crossover, but never took it seriously. I don't know what changed my mind, but something did. So here I go. The worlds will collide!
I had to make some changes to the character to make him fit in the story. For one thing, I curbed his power
big time. If I was to keep him as tremendously powerful as he is, I don't think (and don't take this the wrong way) that Cloud and company would have anything that even remotely resembled a fraction of a slim chance. Not that Cloud doesn't kick ass!
Also, I gave the character a different origin. I still plan to release the still untitled trilogy, and I consider that to be the "true story". When that comes out, read it, and you will see the difference. Reading this may spoil a few surprises for you though, but hell, I don't even know which one I'm gonna finish first! But there is one thing I wanna point out:
THE ORIGIN OF THE MAIN VILLIAN IN THIS STORY IS NOT HIS TRUE ORIGIN!!!!!!
In order for him to function the way I wanted him to in this story, I had to completely rework his origin. I like what I came up with, but if you buy my book in the future,
disregard this story when reading it!
I think what I've cooked up here is a sequel to Final Fantasy VII. Throughout the story, I'm gonna tie up a few loose ends from the game, and maybe create a few of my own (don't worry, the ending will be better). I'm going to have a few things happen that I think should've in the game. There are going to be new characters, as well as all the old ones, and I'm not really changing much. I reworked the way materia is used in a logical manner, explained in a note at the end of Chapter 3, and that's probably the biggest change in of all. Also, seeing as how there were only a handful of cities on a big planet, I made at least one more. I needed a city I could totally obliterate, and I didn't wanna do it to any of the old ones!
I was thinking of calling this story Final Fantasy VII
Alpha or something like that, because Final Fantasy VII-2 is kinda weird, but
Alpha is just plain corny. Corny can be good if correctly used, as you will see by the way a few characters in this story speak. But corniness in a title is hard to get right, unless you're writing a comedy. (Son of the Return Of the Revenge of Final Fantasy VII-2 Alpha-Beta Part 46 1/2) But this isn't a comedy. The title
Fall Of Darkness seemed to fit what was happening in the story, you'll find out how as you read, so I went with that. If you wanna call it Final Fantasy VII - Fall Of Darkness, I guess you can do that.
What can you expect from this? Well basically, I took Final Fantasy VII and my story, along with horror, action, adventure, heavy mystery, blood, gore, light comedy, romance, and a bit of personal philosophy, and put it all in a blender. What should you
not expect? AN INCOMPLETE ENDING!
Thsi is pretty much all you need to understand what you're getting into here. Whether you like it or not is up to you. I may right some more notes as the story progresses, and if you have any questions,
you know what to do! Feel free!
With that having been said, I only need to say one more thing:
Enjoy Fall Of Darkness!!
